What are the guidelines in submitting a photo to the photos page?
To have your e-mail address added to the face painter's discussion list simply visit http://www.snazaroo.us/email.htm
TO SUBMIT A PHOTO TO ANY CONTEST CLICK HERE
The www.snazaroo.us website has grown incredibly since being started off by Gary Cole a few years ago. It has now a vast library of photo images, and many very skilled list members who have helped build it up. Thanks to everyone whose photo is displayed here.
This archive has grown to be an invaluable resource for painters from all over the world, and we want the site to grow and develop along with the people represented. Taking part in the development of this resource is contributing a little bit to the history of development of face painting.
This all means that it is now going to be a more selective process in whether a photo is posted. The reason we are becoming more selective is to avoid redundancy. As an example, we want to avoid having twenty five different versions of the same tiger face. We want your download time to be the most productive as you view the thousands of photos.
All images are copyright. They may not be used on any website, advertising literature, etc without written permission from the owner. It is theft, and we will ensure that anyone, who does this, stops doing so. It is an abuse of the generosity of the people on this list who share images with each other to further the art of face painting, i.e. not to further your business. Anyone found doing this could be removed from the discussion list, permanently.
The aim is to take part in building a site full of examples setting a level of professional face painting that others will be encouraged to follow. If you are a new face painter do not be shy. We encourage you to submit your photos. You might be quite surprised as sometimes the "less complex" designs come away with the winning prize. Even then, if your photo is turned aside because it is considered a "duplicate" of another posted photo or the reviewer has concerns concerning follow the guidelines, your submission the next time will most likely be approved and posted.
The primary purpose of the submission of photos is to offer ideas and suggestions to others. If you feel your photo is proprietary and you do not want it copied in any way, THEN DO NOT SUBMIT IT FOR POSTING. The purpose of posting a photo is to share it within boundaries. If you have a photo posted, THEN YOU SHOULD EXPECT people to paint either the same exact design or something very similar. Individuals MAY PRINT OUT THE PHOTO FOR THEIR PERSONAL USE. They may not print it out on their business cards, promotional mailer, post to their website or enlarged signboards or anything similar.
They MAY select their favorite designs and cut and paste them to create a booklet or small signboard for children or customers to select from. This may be done with the following understanding... the images can not be larger than 2 inches wide and 3 inches tall. On each page you print, you must state in text that is at least a tenth of an inch tall font "The photos represented on this page are not necessarily painted by the artist or the company represented at this event. They are used with permission from www.snazaroo.us where artists from around the world submit and share photos. They should not be used outside the boundaries as listed at www.snazaroo.us/faqphotos.htm ".
You may not post these photos or any text from the SNAZAROO site to ANY internet site or printed material for sale without the written permission of the artist.
1. The photograph must be sent complete with all details via the submission page at www.snazaroo.us/upload.php
At a MINIMUM you must submit your name, your country, the name of the contest you want it entered in. You must also be sure that you have secured all legal permissions in order to have the photo posted to the SNAZAROO web site. If you have all permission, then you simply just check the six legal disclaimers on the bottom of that page. This is required for submission.
(You can omit email address, or opt to put in a web site link instead. Links must be PG 13 rated) ( see http://www.snazaroo.us/faqpg13.htm )
Ensure you have read through any information on the submission page before submission and agree to it. Including criteria and prize information, if that contest or page offers a prize.
The email attachment should be of a size less than 350KB but larger than 100KB preferably a jpg. These days with digital cameras the photo sizes can be very large. You must reduce them in size or they will be returned. We also would not like them too small. This is why we would like them larger than 100KB to keep good clarity. PLEASE send them in a portrait and not landscape to help keep the photo pages uniform. It will almost certainly be modified for posting. All photos are approximately the same size on the site. It will also almost certainly be cropped to focus on the painting. It will not be modified other than that, or light/dark/contrast. Computer modifications by anyone, other than those mentioned will mean it cannot be posted. In sending in your photo you are accepting it may be modified for posting. Please also avoid special filters and special effects.
You can send photographs for scanning to Gary Cole, SNAZAROO USA Inc., 1214 Metro Park Blvd., Suite 201, Lewisville, TX 75057
Your
photo will be scanned and sent with the information enclosed. It will be
returned if you enclose a stamped self addressed envelope. If you do not send a
self addressed stamped envelope your photos will be discarded after they are
scanned.
NOTE: We post these photos as a free service. Once posted we will
not remove or make any change to the listing in any way with out the individual
paying a $5 administration fee for each web page that you want changed in any
way (including removal of a photo). The contributor of the photo submits the
photo and associated information with this clear understanding. (see
http://www.snazaroo.us/faqcharge.htm )
2. The face or body painting must have been created with FDA approved face paint..
Certainly avoid acrylic paints, tempera paints, UV/day glow paints that use pigments banned by the FDA or any other paints not designated as safe for use on the face in the United States, European Union or the United Kingdom.
3. The photo must meet the guidelines of the U.S. PG-13 rating. see http://www.snazaroo.us/faqpg13.htm No bare breast, bottoms or private parts. No suggestive photos are allowed.
4.Photos may be posted only once to the site. The only exception to this is if a photo has been submitted to the site, and is then part of a step-by-step submission.. If you enter the same photo to multiple contest, breaking this rule, it causes a lot of extra work to the photo team. With three strikes, you will not be allowed to participate in photo contests for a six month period.
5. Photos must be of good enough quality. The face painting must be able to be clearly seen. It should also focus on only one design.
6.The face or body painting itself must reach a certain standard, which we have tried to explain below.
(a)
Relevant to the page for submission and any criteria on that
page, such as a request for originality.
(b)
Clearly recognizable, as for example a dog.
(c)
It must have a value to other painters, something to share, or
teach. A new colour combination, new shape, new style of brushwork, totally
original idea. It will be much harder to have a tiger posted than for example a
new character, simply because original ideas are harder to come by in cats.
As you look through the thousands of photos on the SNAZAROO site you will see many postings of various cats, butterflies and even Dracula's. When posting a new photo make sure your particular photo has something new to offer. Ask yourself the question... "Does my photo offer a notable improvement over the other photos or does my particular photo use a different choice of colors or shading to make it unique?" If it doesn't you should look to modify your face painting photo to make it different or better than earlier postings.
(d)
The base must be evenly painted and tidy looking
(e)
The colours chosen must be pleasing and have impact.
(f)
Well blended where appropriate
(g)
Symmetrical where appropriate, as for example in a butterfly.
(h)
Not covered so much with glitter we cannot see the design.
Glitter must be kept away eyes in designs. Glitter powders are fine around eyes.
(i)
Aim for working designs. That is, designs that can be done in 3
to 7 minutes if known. If a design takes more than 10 minutes to paint it should
be aiming for being elite or theatrical. Some contests will be on time, and
those conditions will apply, for example 30 seconds.
(j)
Brushwork must be well executed.
(k)
We are aiming to see displays of people best work, things they
are especially proud of.
(l)
Is there something that would be unsafe if duplicated on a child
in the photograph?
(m) No group shots. In other words, one person in the photo.
Exceptions can be made in this guideline but it will be extremely rare.
(n) Photography and cropping should be to the painted
face or body. We care about painting not costumes.
7. If
you are under 21 please state your age (this is not required but could give you
an edge during the voting process. For example... if your photo is very good and
the vote is going to go to you or another and they note you are young, you might
get the vote) A parent should be involved in this decision.
8. By submitting your photo you are allowing others to copy your work
9. By submitting your photo you are allowing others to print out your work for
their own use
10. The photo continues to be "owned" by the artist
11. You may not duplicate these photos for commercial purposes in ANY way
12. You may not post these photos to another web site without permission of the
artist
13. Submit photos as often as you like, but we would not like any individual to
submit more than five photos to a particular contest page. The exception is the
children's contest where the child may enter one photo per calendar month with a
possible maximum of twelve.
14. Once a contest is closed we may add other photos
to that page consistent with the theme
15. We may delete your photo at any time without notification
16. Think original, paint original, be original
17. It must meet minimal artistic standards because the PRIMARY PURPOSE of this
list is to help teach others
18. It must be obviously painted on skin. Training heads etc are not accepted.
19. Multiple views can be posted if the is worth in posting two views. However
if this is a contest you should be aware you may split your vote. If multiple
views are posted in the "Face-Off / King/Queen contest after the first posting
we will crop to what we feel is the best image from the various views. We
STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU to select YOUR FAVORITE VIEW and submit that view.
20. Photos may now be marked with a small logo to be obvious they have come from
this site. They may also be watermarked as copyright and the year. This is a
direct result of people taking copyright images and posting them to their web
sites, as they’re own work. Below is a sample. If people want to watermark their
own images with personal I.D. that is fine. Below is a sample of how the image
will alter. It is hopefully discrete enough not to interfere with the enjoyment
of the painting.
21.
At Snazaroo.us we reserve the right to reject any photograph without giving any
reason.
22. Please read all information on the submission page to ensure the photo is
being posted legally.
23. Make sure you read the PG-13 and "sensitive areas" guideline at
www.snazaroo.us/faqpg13.htm
24. During the voting process it is against the rules to solicit votes aka
"please vote for me at this link" or anything along this line. If we find out
solicitation for votes your photo will be removed from eligibility without
notice.
25. If a submitter repeatedly submits photos breaking the
guidelines they can be banned from participating in photo contests for a 90 day
period. It is not complicated. Please follow the list rules to prevent your
photos from being sent back and causing extra work for our photo processing
volunteers.
We are very open to your suggestions on how the photos as well as the photo pages and contests can be improved. If you have a suggestion please send in your ideas to photos@snazaroo.com (the screener for photos), garycole@mindspring.com (the person who posts pictures to the site and the founder of the web site and discussion list) Or even to facepaint@email.sparklist.com (the discussion list for face painters). Sincerely your input is appreciated. We can only improve if we know how we can improve.
You can always see the current open contests by looking at http://www.snazaroo.us/photos.htm
Once you have submitted a photo watch the particular contest that you wanted it posted to. Make sure that your name, link or city/state/country is listed correctly. If there are any errors e-mail garycole@mindspring.com immediately to request a correction. If the error was ours we will make the changes for free IF YOU MAKE THIS REQUEST WITHIN 7 DAYS OF POSTING. All other changes (that are not our fault) require a $5 administration fee (see http://www.snazaroo.us/faqcharge.htm ).
Stay close to the "discussion list for face painters" as it is there when we announce it is time to vote. You will want to vote in the contest. Yes, you may vote for your own photo if you wish. Watch carefully for the winners to be announced. The winners are NOT notified individually. You must either check back to the contest page or pay attention on the discussion list when we say "winners announced". Once the winners are posted the winner must claim their prize within 60 days. To claim your prize just send an e-mail to garycole@mindspring.com and let us know the prizes you selected (if you had a choice) and also give us a physical address to ship the prize. You must do this for each contest you win. If you do not claim your prize in 60 days you forfeit your prizes.
Note: We take the illegal posting of copyrighted photos from the SNAZAROO site very serious. We always try to resolve such issues in a peaceful manner but we have taken legal action and won judgments against those that blatantly violate copyright guidelines. One must consider that people are posting these photos in a sharing and most generous manner. They are offered simply to help YOU become a better face painter. PLEASE do not void this generous trust and post these photos to another site or print them out for ANY commercial purpose. When we say "commercial purpose" this means you are not allowed to reprint these photos to any business card, flyer or promotional piece, to any web site, any printed material of any sort that is meant to be resold. You ARE ALLOWED to print out these photos for your own personal face painting book as a source of ideas. You may print out these photos as is, to put in your photo book to show to children so that they may select which design they want on their face. The only stipulation is that you use this photo book for your own personal use.
If photos on this site are found elsewhere, we will immediately ask you to remove these photos unless you can provide proof that the artist gave you permission for use. If you use these photos in error and do not immediately remove the images you may be banned from photo contests, you can be dropped from the discussion list for face painters. Depending on the severity of your action we may opt to legally shut down your web site, report you to authorities and even take further legal action in regard to copyright infringement issues. In addition there could be civil suits in regards to the theft of photos and all legal charges can be billed to you should we win the legal case.
PLEASE use these photos as they were intended. Any questions regarding any of these issues should go to garycole@mindspring.com or photos@snazaroo.com
Guide to submitting your photograph to the Snazaroo competition pages.
1 Firstly, please prepare your image. Take a good look at it and crop it so that the face painting you want to submit is clear and the main focus of the image. Please do not crop it so closely that we obscure half the design when adding the Snazaroo clown copyright logo to it!
2 Think about the name of the file – please only use alphanumeric characters and no spaces. The photos are uploaded separately to your details and the photo team match them up as part of the photo processing, so please name your image appropriately preferably including your name.
3 Go to the photo directory page (http://www.snazaroo.us/photos.htm) and select the competition most appropriate to your design. Open competitions are indicated with a green square, as shown.
4 Please read the guidelines for the competition on the specific page carefully and also the overall guidelines for all competitions found at www.snazaroo.us/faqphotos.htm to ensure that your picture is appropriate for the competition. i.e. some competitions are for designs on the face only, etc.
5 At the top of the photo directory page there is a large link to the photo submissions page which says, “TO SUBMIT A PHOTO TO ANY CONTEST CLICK HERE”. Either follow this link to the upload page, or you can access it directly at http://www.snazaroo.us/upload.htm
6 Fill in your details in the boxes, as shown.
7 Please ensure that the details are capitalised correctly as these will be cut and pasted directly beneath your entry on the photo page. An artists name is required – company names will not be accepted.
8 Next you need to select from your PC the image that you have prepared for submission to the competition. To do this either enter the full path name for your file into the box, or click the browse button, as shown.
9 When you have selected your file in the browse box, click on Open and the full path will be transferred into the submission form. It is only a small box and not all the path may be displayed, but it will be there.
10 Enter a title and descriptive words for your image so that we can build up a searchable database of images.
11 Ensure that you have entered your contact e-mail, either at the beginning of the form for display with your picture, or in the comments box. If there is a submission with no e-mail given, the photo team can not contact you to advise whether the picture has been accepted or rejected. There are too many pictures to process to be able to search out each individuals e-mail address.
12 To agree to all the statements at the bottom of the submission page, click on the boxes and ticks will appear.
13 You are now ready to upload your image. Click on the SEND button at the bottom of the page to do so.
14 The form will reset and clear the boxes and right at the top of the page you will get a one line message advising you that you have submitted successfully as shown.
PLEASE NOTE: The rest of the process is manually completed by the voluntary photo team. There will be NO automatic e-mail responses and posting to the web page of the competition is NOT instant.
Time taken to process your entry is on average three weeks but may vary dependant upon the workload and availability of the volunteers who process the images.
You will receive an e-mail message, once processing is complete, from a member of the photo team (if you have supplied an e-mail address on the submission form as requested), to advise you whether your photo has been accepted or rejected.
